Episode 3: Rebellion

This episode tells the story of the Jewish Revolt, which swept through Judea in AD 66 and threatened to destabilise the whole empire. Rome turned to the disgraced General Vespasian and his son Titus to put it down. Rome was once a largely democratic society, with regular elections. This Republic lasted for 500 years, but then came Tiberius Gracchus. He believed in the ideals of the Republic - fairness, decency and justice for everyone -but was appalled by Rome’s aristocrats’ treatment of the poor. So he unleashed the power of the mob upon the streets of Rome, with devastating consequences.

Co-founder of Microsoft said that Vista is not the last large-scale updating Windows. Gates said that the operating system will continue to grow and developers have no difficulty with new ideas. Newsweek asked whether Geist say that the new OS will be available in 2010-2011, to which he replied “certainly”.
The next version of Windows is expected expanded access to your computer through Live Services-services quick access to your files, the preferred settings, and other things to another computer through the Internet. The forthcoming release should please students.

Téléphones portables toujours au top

Des téléphones équipés deusystème Android de Google vont faire leur apparition.

De nouveaux téléphones équipés du système de Google, Android, vont faire leur apparition. Le premier modèle créé par HTC dispose d'un clavier coulissant, fait fonction d'appareil photo, de lecteur multimédia et de navigateur GPS, et regroupe diverses applications de Google (recherche sur le Web, courrier électronique, messagerie instantanée, affichage de cartes satellite, de plans et de photos à 360 degrés des rues des grandes villes), etc. L'ensemble se pilote, au choix, au doigt sur un écran tactile, par reconnaissance vocale ou à l'aide d'une molette de navigation.

De son côté, Apple préparerait un iPhone nano et un iPod touch grand format. Le premier, qui pourrait être commercialisé au deuxième trimestre, serait un produit plus compact et moins cher que l'actuel iPhone. Le second bénéficierait d'un écran de 7 ou de 9 pouces (18 ou 23 cm) de diagonale, contre 3,5 pouces aujourd'hui (9 cm). Ce modèle, qui pourrait être lancé à l'automne 2009, s'inspirerait du projet de tablette électronique à écran tactile développé par Apple. Il sera peut-être présenté à l'Apple Store de Paris, lequel doit ouvrir cette année dans la galerie commerciale du Carrousel du Louvre.

Internet de plus en plus mobile

Nos appareils mobiles seront encore plus connectés grâce au développement des accès à Internet par réseaux 3G. Une tendance qui a émergé en 2008 et se poursuivra en 2009. PC portables et ultraportables, téléphones mobiles et ordinateurs de poche peuvent désormais accéder à Internet n'importe où en empruntant les réseaux téléphoniques. Pour récupérer des messages, accéder à des sites Web et transférer des données sans fil à des débits comparables à ceux de l'ADSL. Les baladeurs multimédia, les livres électroniques profiteront aussi de la 3G. Et même les navigateurs GPS.

Le dernier-né de TomTom, par exemple, intègre une carte SIM qui permet d'interroger des serveurs pour obtenir la météo, des infos trafic et le prix de l'essence des stations-service, mais aussi pour fournir des statistiques de déplacement qui servent à localiser les ralentissements et les embouteillages. Enfin, la généralisation du GPS sur les smartphones et de plus en plus de téléphones va accélérer l'émergence d'une véritable cartographie pour piétons.

Téléviseurs multimédia

Avec les téléviseurs reliés à Internet, on peut zapper entre les émissions de télévision et les informations en provenance du web.

Apparus en 2008, les téléviseurs connectés à Internet devraient se développer. Le principe ? Reliez votre appareil au réseau par sa prise Ethernet et vous bénéficierez de nouveaux programmes : vidéos de YouTube, gros titres des sites d'information, météo et cours de la Bourse, jeux en ligne, etc. Plusieurs constructeurs, comme Samsung et Panasonic, ont même conclu des partenariats avec différents fournisseurs de contenus en ligne. D'autres prévoient d'ouvrir le téléviseur aux chaînes de WebTV qui se répandent sur Internet. D'ailleurs, le téléviseur sera capable de diffuser aussi les contenus multimédia stockés sur les ordinateurs de la maison en utilisant le réseau local. Fini, donc, les boîtiers intermédiaires et les câbles vidéo en vadrouille. On attend aussi cette année les premiers téléviseurs à écran ultra-plat OLED de grande taille, plus contrastés et moins gourmands en énergie que les écrans LCD et plasma actuels.

Bonnes surprises pour les joueurs

Vendue à plus de 6 millions d'unités en France, la console Nintendo DS aura sa nouvelle version au printemps prochain. Au menu : des écrans plus grands, deux capteurs photo avec fonction vidéo - l'un de 3 mégapixels sur la façade extérieure, l'autre de 0,3 mégapixel à l'intérieur - un emplacement pour cartes mémoire SD en plus de composants de mémoire internes, un navigateur Internet et un nouveau service de téléchargement de jeux en ligne.

Le nouveau jeu vedette pour la console Wii, Wii Sports Resort, sera accompagné d'une manette spéciale qui simulera de manière plus réaliste des activités comme le Frisbee ou le jet-ski. Parmi les jeux à surveiller, celui de Harmonix et des développeurs de Rock Band, dans lesquels le joueur devient un membre des Beatles. Il faut s'attendre aussi à voir débarquer davantage de jeux au cours de l'année, et non plus dans des périodes déterminées. Enfin, les plus téméraires prêteront une oreille attentive aux rumeurs d'une nouvelle Xbox millésimée 2009…

Ordinateurs plus ergonomiques

La prochaine version de Windows devrait être plus rapide et plus ergonomique.

Régulièrement, les éditeurs de systèmes d'exploitation lancent de nouvelles versions de leurs logiciels. 2009 n'échappera pas à la règle avec l'évolution des deux principaux produits du secteur, Windows de Microsoft et Mac OS X d'Apple. Windows 7, prévu pour le second semestre, sera chargé d'effacer les mauvais souvenirs du passage de Windows XP à Vista. Ses atouts ? Une plus grande rapidité d'exécution, une optimisation des nouveautés de Vista, une interface relookée avec l'apparition d'une nouvelle «barre de tâches» et des widgets indépendants de la barre latérale, la gestion des écrans tactiles multipoint (pour manipuler des images à la manière de l'iPhone), la reconnaissance de différents types de fichiers multimédia (audio AAC et vidéo DivX, Xvid et H.264), et des fonctions de reconnaissance vocale et de reconnaissance de l'écriture manuscrite.

Le nouveau Mac OS X, baptisé Snow Leopard, est prévu pour la fin du premier semestre. Selon Apple, il ne se distinguera pas par ses nouveautés mais par ses évolutions. L'idée est de simplifier l'ensemble du système et d'améliorer ses performances. Il offrira des capacités de calcul plus puissantes et gérera des quantités inédites de mémoire. Il pourra aussi prendre en charge plus de fichiers audio et vidéo, communiquer avec des serveurs Microsoft Exchange et bénéficiera d'un navigateur Web plus rapide.
